3 Air Conditioning Repairs You Shouldn't Ignore

Occasionally, your air conditioning unit will break down or exhibit signs of malfunctioning. Like most homeowners, you'll either resolve the problem or ignore it—the latter hinges on the hope that the malfunction or issue will resolve itself.

In some cases, these problems will resolve themselves. However, here are three repairs you shouldn't overlook.

1. Refrigerant Leak

Your AC needs the refrigerant to cool your home. Once your system begins leaking refrigerant, expect a hike in energy bills due to inefficient cooling. If an increase in bills isn't worrisome, consider the impact on your family's health.

Most refrigerants are freon, which is an odorless and tasteless gas. If freon leaks from your AC unit, you might not notice or smell it. The leak can impact your health due to refrigerant poisoning.

Always check your AC for malfunction or problems such as leaks. Contact a technician to inspect your AC for refrigerant leaks or any other issues. The technician can repair or plug the holes if the AC has leaks.

2. Damaged Fan Blades

Your AC can run with bent or damaged fan blades, but it's not an excuse. If you continue running your AC with damaged fan blades, it will create problems.

Typically, fan blades are metallic; thus, sturdy enough to withstand rigorous use. Over time, these blades will loosen or damage. The fan blades will continue to function but may damage other sections of your AC. Damaged or loose fan blades are loud and disruptive. Contact air conditioning repair technicians if your blades are damaged to avoid incurring further damage to your AC.

After the inspection, the technician will replace all the blades if one is damaged. You can't replace or repair one blade since the unit is connected. Damage to one blade affects the entire unit. Therefore, the technician has to install a new set of blades based on the motor's horsepower and RPM.

3. Faulty Wiring

Most electrical issues are easy to note. For example, a tripping breaker points to a faulty wire problem. Without the breaker to shut down your AC, your panel could catch fire. Don't ignore a breaker issue as it may indicate a larger problem. A technician can evaluate your electrical panel and unit to confirm that all parts are wired according to recommended specifications.

Similarly, don't overlook exposed wiring as it's a fire hazard and allows moisture into your AC's electrical system. Electrical fires are dangerous but avoidable if you contact professionals when you notice exposed or faulty wiring. A company like Mountain Air Inc. has more information.
